Connect Custom Domain

Overview

Connect a custom domain to your DocsHound documentation. This allows you to use a branded URL for your published content.

Connecting Your Custom Domain

In DocsHound, click the Publish button in the top right corner.

Select the Domain tab.

Enter your custom domain name.

Click Configure domain to generate the required CNAME records.

Copy the displayed CNAME records.

Updating Your DNS Settings

Log in to your domain registrar's control panel (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Bluehost) and locate the DNS management section. This may be labeled as "DNS Settings," "Advanced DNS," "DNS Records," or "Domain Manager," depending on your provider.

Paste the copied CNAME records into your DNS settings. If presented with a "Proxied" vs. "DNS only" option (e.g., in Cloudflare), select DNS only.

Choose DNS Only for Setup

When configuring your domain settings, if you encounter a choice between 'Proxied' and 'DNS Only' options, opt for 'DNS Only'. This helps in maintaining a straightforward and transparent DNS configuration.

Save the changes to your DNS settings.

Verifying DNS Setup

Back in the DocsHound Domain tab, click the Verify DNS setup button. DocsHound will check your configuration.

Your domain will go live within minutes, though full DNS propagation can take a few hours.

Additional Considerations

SSL Certificate

DocsHound automatically generates an SSL certificate for your custom domain, ensuring secure access to your documentation.

Domain Provider Variations

DNS settings vary between providers. Consult your provider's documentation for specific instructions if needed.

  • Yes, you can connect a subdomain with DocsHound. This allows specific sections of your site to have their own unique documentation links.

  • If you run into any issues, you can contact our support team at support@docshound.com for help.

  • You can assign a unique domain to each guide you create. Set up separate workspaces for additional guides if needed.

  • If you want the domain to be viewable by link but not appear in search engines, go to the settings modal, click the basic meta tab, and toggle on the Block robots option. For advanced authentication options, like JWT, contact support at support@docshound.com.
